Pizza Fun Fact #2 – Pizza from around the world

You know, it is hard to imagine that Home Run Inn pizza is not the original pizza that all pizza blossomed from.  Sad but true, pizza has root all over the world.  Though we undoubtedly agree that authentic Chicago style pizza from Home Run Inn is the end all to great pizza, let us see what a couple of our neighbors dare to claim as pizza!

Australia

The usual Italian varieties are available, though more common is the style popular in America, with more and richer topping than Italian style. A common is the Aussie, Australian or Australiana which has the usual tomato sauce base and mozzarella cheese with bacon and egg (seen as Australian breakfast fare).  Pizzas with seafood such as prawns are also popular. In the 1980s some Australian pizza shops and restaurants began selling "gourmet pizzas", pizzas with more expensive ingredients such as salmon, dill, bocconcini, tiger prawns, or unconventional toppings such as kangaroo, emu and crocodile (crikey!).

Sweden

Pizza arrived in Sweden with Italian guest workers and became popular around 1970.  One of the most popular types of pizza in Sweden is kebab-pizza, with doner kebab (kinda like gyro meat) as the main topping.

Well, I don’t know about you but I think I will stick with the good old fashioned sausage, pepperoni and extra cheese pizza myself! So I suggest you make a run down to your favorite Home Run Inn Pizza location and indulge in some Chicago style American culture (hold the kangaroo!).

Mothers Day is soon upon us and we know it is a tradition to take Mom out for brunch on Mother's day but don't forget their are 24 hours in her day so here are some ideas to give Mom a break. This is probably the most important person in your life.  Wether she is the mother of your children or your Mom she deserves to have the day off.

So here are 3 things you can do that will insure that this Mothers day is one she won't forget.

1. Take her out to Dinner and give her the whole day off not just brunch!  It not like she hasn't cooked the rest of the year.  If you're near any of our locations bring her in and we will treat her right.  But even if you can't take her out you can always go to our recipes section and pick up a frozen pizza and make a special treat for her.

2. Give her a day at the Spa or, at least make her feel like she is at one!  Get some scented candles and set them around the bath and bed where she will be relaxing.  Run a hot bath for her and let her just soak and relax.  When she comes out put a pillow under her feet to elevate her legs and give her a magazine, book, or her favorite TV show to unwind with.

3. BE QUIET!! No seriously, you need to just be quiet.  She has to play coach/referee/cop everyday, she's at games, plays, dance rehearsals, as well as in traffic in the morning and night.  Give her peace on mothers day and keep the noise to a minimum.  She will appreciate this small and easy gesture more then anything else you do that day.

To all the Mom's We hope your day is speacial and thank you for all of your support for Home Run Inn over the years and in making us the best selling frozen chicago pizza!

CHILI DOG PIZZA

I don’t know any kid who doesn’t love a good chili dog.  One because they are awesome, and two, because they are messy.  Messy food is fun (if you’re the kid).  Anyone ever wonder who invented the chili dog?  I did.  So here is another pizza fun fact for you:

Well, sadly for us, the origins of the hot dog and the subsequent chili dog are circumstantial at best.  Hot dogs probably hail from German origin, Viennese or Frankfurt in the 1400s.  Chili dogs, according to Texan lore most likely hail from the Lone Star state, chili capital of the world, but this is not substantiated. What is known about the chili dog is that the basic blueprint is a wiener in a bun topped with some kind of chili.  Well, Home Run Inn has taken it one step further...Chili Dog Pizza!

Not only does it make for a slightly less messy offering, but it allows a whole family to enjoy the combination of chili dogs scrumpteousness and good old fashioned Chicago pizza.  Now the only question left is “beans or no beans?”

Follow the instructions below and enjoy!

Ingredients

·         1 ea of your favorite chili (15oz)

·         2 ea hot dogs

·         1/4 cup diced onions

·         1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Directions

Spread chili over frozen pizza.

Top with hot dogs sliced in rings.

Bake as directed 20-25 Minutes.

Remove from oven and top with onions and shredded cheddar cheese.

The History of the Easter Egg Hunt and other Easter Fun Facts

Happy Easter to all our fans from Home Run Inn, Chicago's Best Pizza!  We hope your day is a fun and joyful day.  We thought we would share some of the history around the traditions of Easter.

The Tradition of the Easter Egg Hunt

Easter Egg Hunting began in America when German immigrants brought their Osterhase tradition to Pennsylvania in the 1700s. The festivity soon spread across the nation.  Eventually, the game evolved into a treasure hunt, and the prizes expanded from just hard-boiled eggs to include chocolate, candy, toys and coins. In many families, the Easter Bunny leaves a basket filled with gifts, not just eggs to find.

Why bunnies?

The idea of an egg-laying rabbit might have started with the Romans, who believed that all life came from eggs. Another link between the rabbit and the egg comes from older traditions, in which the rabbit was associated with the moon and the egg with the sun. On the spring equinox, when day and night are the same length, the rabbit and egg come together.

Why Eggs?

Since ancient times, eggs have been seen as a symbol of new life for obvious reasons.  Some believe that the egg might represent the stone that was rolled away from Christ's tomb, revealing his resurrection.

Why Egg Decoration?

Decorating eggs for Easter probably began in the 13th century, when eggs (in addition to meat) were forbidden during the Christian Lent season, which ends on Easter. To mark the end of the time of penance and fasting, people painted and decorated eggs before eating them. For centuries, parents emptied raw eggs and dyed the eggshells or dyed hard-boiled eggs for their children to find. Some also hand-painted the eggs with elaborate designs. Today, the colored egg has evolved into a plastic egg that you can hide a small treat inside.

I Dream of Chicago Pizza

in The Wonderful World of Pizza
I dream of Chicago pizza My love affair with pizza began later in life than most peoples. I didn’t like pizza until I was in high school…literally. I hated tomatoes so I equated that dislike to pizza. MY first foray into pizza was another brand. I know, I know let the floggings begin…I didn't know better. I took a liking to it because our delivery driver couldn’t make the 30 minute time limit and we got our pizza free more times than not. Dad always said, “Free pizza was the great equalizer.” Nowadays I disagree. I will go great lengths to have an awesome, mouth-watering piece of Chicago style pizza. Having lived in Chicago and tasted all of the fantastic options Chicago folks have, I have become a pizza snob. My wife and I frequently correct restaurants that claim to have Chicago style pizza, and they clearly don’t. Our friends routinely opt to not go out for pizza with us. Seriously, you cant claim Chicago style pizza if its not authentic Chicago style pizza. Home Run Inn Pizza is just that. They claim it and then back it up with mouthwatering Chicago pizza nobody can touch. Yeah, there is good pizza out there, but not Home Run Inn good. They have 8 locations around the Chicago area, you can order their frozen pizzas to be delivered, and their pizza clubs give you the chance to save money and even earn free pizza. Remember what my father said, “Free is the great equalizer.” Well he wasn’t exactly correct but free pizza is still pretty awesome.
